Ingredients

(makes about 2 cups) 

  • 2 cups tomato sauce, no salt added
  • 2 tablespoons salted butter
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions

  1. Place butter in a non-stick pan and bring to medium heat.
  2. As butter starts to melt, add flour and stir in with butter.
  3. Reduce heat to low and add in chili powder, stirring frequently.
  4. Add in tomato sauce and other spices.
  5. Simmer for about 20 minutes until sauce thickens.
  6. Remove from heat.  Serve and enjoy over your favorite enchilada recipe or on other mexican-style foods such as tacos, burritos, or beans and rice.
