Ingredients

(makes about 3 cups)

  • 2 cups black beans, canned, rinsed
  • 1 cup tomato sauce, no salt added
  • 1/2 cup diced onions
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • ground pepper

Directions

  1. Coat the bottom of a saucepan with olive oil and bring to low to medium heat.
  2.  Add onions to pan and cook until translucent.
  3. Add in tomato sauce, brown sugar, tomato paste, honey, mustard, and spices. 
  4. Simmer on low heat for about 15 minutes.
  5. Add beans and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat, serve, and enjoy!
